What is an inactive user template?

An inactive user template is a pre-built email framework designed to re-engage users who have stopped interacting with your product or service.

It’s a key tool in your customer retention strategy, helping you bring back users before they churn.

What’s Inside the template?

The inactive user template offers three adaptable email drafts for different levels of inactivity:

  1. Doesn’t activate account – A message that gently nudges users to activate their accounts and highlights the benefits of doing so.
  2. Inactive for first seven days – A follow-up email for users who haven’t engaged within their first week, reminding them of the product’s value.
  3. Inactive for first 30 days – A friendly check-in for users who have been inactive for 30 days, with a light-hearted tone to rekindle their interest and showcase key features they’re missing.

Each email includes placeholders to personalize the message with the user’s name and relevant product features, making it a flexible tool for various use cases.

How to use the template

  1. Customize the template – Personalize the email by filling in the placeholders with user details, relevant product features, and any additional incentives you may want to offer.
  2. Segment your audience – Identify users who fit each inactivity profile (e.g., those who haven’t activated their accounts or have been inactive for a week or more).
  3. Schedule the emails – Send the right message at the right time. For example, send the first email if a user hasn’t activated within a day or two, and the others based on inactivity periods (seven days, 30 days, etc.).
  4. Track engagement – Monitor how users respond to the emails and adjust your strategy accordingly. Follow up with users who re-engage and consider alternative approaches for those who remain inactive.
