What is a data scorecard template?

A data scorecard is a self-assessment tool that helps you evaluate the quality of your data across key dimensions, such as accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

This template allows you to assign scores to various data quality metrics, giving you an overall view of how reliable and effective your data is.

What’s inside the template?

The data scorecard includes the following components to help you assess your data quality:

  1. Data quality dimensions – Six core metrics to evaluate your data:
    • Accuracy – Is your data correct and free of errors?
    • Completeness – Is all the necessary information present?
    • Consistency – Does the data remain consistent across various sources?
    • Timeliness – Is the data up-to-date and relevant?
    • Validity – Does the data conform to the correct formats and values?
    • Uniqueness – Are there duplicate records or unique values?
  2. Scoring system – A 1-5 rating scale for each dimension.
  3. Overall data quality score – A total score is calculated by summing the individual scores, with ranges indicating high, average, or low data quality.

How to use it:

  1. Assess your data – Evaluate each data quality dimension (accuracy, completeness, etc.) using the 1-5 scale and provide notes on what’s working and what needs improvement.
  2. Calculate your score – Add up the scores for each dimension to get an overall data quality score and determine whether your data is high, average, or low quality.
  3. Identify areas for improvement – Use the notes section to document areas where improvements are needed and set actionable goals to enhance data quality.
  4. Review and track progress – Reassess your data quality regularly and track improvements over time.
